The International Education School¡¯s Enrollment Program for International Students

 

I. University Profile

 

       

Mudanjiang Normal University (MNU) is a provincial university with the oldest history, largest scale and strongest comprehensive academic potential in the southeastern area of Heilongjiang Province. It is a China Government Scholarship university and the National Model University of Chinese Standardization with HSK¡¢BCT¡¢YCT test center and national test center of Mandarin Chinese. It is a MOE (Ministry of Education) China-Russia College Students Exchange Base. MNU provides undergraduate and graduate programs for both Chinese and international students. MNU is the first choice for international students to learn Chinese.
 
MNU, established 55 years ago, is located in beautiful Mudanjiang, one of the nation¡¯s outstanding tourist attractions. With 1.05 million total square meters, MNU has 18 colleges with 44 undergraduate majors and 21 graduate majors in total. Generally, it has more than 22,000 full-time students including undergraduate students, graduate students, and registered adult education students.
 
Presently, the university¡¯s faculty amounts to 1,170 teachers and administrative staff, including 352 full/associate professors and 510 teachers with Doctor¡¯s (PHD) or Master¡¯s degrees.
 



 

II. School Profile

 

      

The International Education School (IES) of Mudanjiang Normal University is established in June 2003. Since starting recruitment of foreign students in 1996, about 2000 international students from Russia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, South Korea, Japan, the United States, Germany, Holland, India and other countries, have come here to study Chinese year after year.
 
Based on the long term Chinese teaching practice for foreign students, our teachers instruct students according to their aptitudes, focusing on their characteristics and skills. This instruction has significantly improved our students' abilities in listening, speaking, reading, writing, and other areas.
 

Regarding Chinese-foreign cooperation in running schools, IES has established friendly cooperation with many foreign colleges or universities, including the Blagoveshchensk State Pedagogical University of Russia, the Vladivostok State University of Economics and Service, the Kamchatka State University of Pedagogy of Russia, the University of Westminster of UK, the Brunel University of UK, the Northumbria University of UK, the Fuji Tokoha University of Japan, the Chongju University and Semyung University of South Korea, the Taylor's University College of Malaysia, the Genetic Computer School of Singapore, University of Central Arkansas of U.S.A. and other universities. 

 

III. Enrollment Programs

 

A.     Long-term Chinese Training

1. It is divided into three levels: basic, intermediate level and advanced level; and small class for teaching.

2. Application conditions: independent living and learning abilities, good physical heath, compliance with the laws and regulations of the People¡¯s Republic of China as well as all the rules of this university, not based on your current Chinese level.

3. Admission time: from the beginning of February through the beginning of March

After finishing the course, you should know about 4,000 words, can master basic Chinese grammar, have general listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.

Advanced level

Chinese grammar, Chinese speaking, Chinese listening, selected readings of newspapers and periodicals, Chinese culture, HSK counseling

After finishing the course, you should have a degree of fluency in Chinese, have advanced listening, speaking, reading, writing skills, and relevant translation skills.

 

5. After finishing the required courses, you will be awarded with a course completion certificate by the university. In addition, you may participate in the Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) during your study period.

 

B. Short-term Chinese Training

1. It is conducted during winter and summer vacations (winter: January to February; summer: July to August)

2. Curriculum:

  Language courses: Chinese grammar, listening & speaking

  Practice courses: city sightseeing & introduction, introduction to calligraphy, learning to sing Chinese songs, learning Chinese cuisine, basic Chinese Kung Fu.

3. Course-completion: if you pass the examination after finishing the courses, you will be awarded with the relevant certificates.

 

C. Undergraduate Education

MNU undergraduate education is a four-year course. Upon completing your study period with qualified achievements and passing the required examinations, you will be awarded with a undergraduate diploma (registered in MOE) by our school; if you defend your oral thesis, you will be awarded with a Bachelor¡¯s degree certificate.

 

Major : Chinese Language Literature, Law, Biotechnology, Electronic and Information Science and Technology, Science Education, Physical Education, English Education, Business Administration, Marketing, Tourism management, Musicology, Dancology, Artistic Designing, Pedagogy, Information and Computing Science

D£®Graduate Education

MNU graduate education is a three-year course. Upon completing your study period with qualified achievements and passing the required examinations, you will be awarded with a graduate diploma (registered in MOE) by our school; if you defend your oral thesis, you will be awarded with a Master¡¯s degree certificate.

 

Major : Chinese Language Literature, Physical Education

 

Admission time:  the beginning of August through the beginning of September each year.

 

E. Other programs

1.        The IES¡¯s Chinese Study Tour lessons are based primarily on Mudanjiang¡¯s cultural & natural heritage, national culture, etc. as the main topics. Related and secondary topics are on natural scenery and folk cultures. At the same time, Chinese language will be the medium of instruction. The concept to learn as we travel will be implemented, with on-site study. There will also be seminars and performances during the tour. These will expand the students¡¯ Chinese cultural knowledge, help them gain more in-depth understanding of Chinese culture and improve their oral language skills. This Chinese Study Tour is different from traditional Chinese language classes. It will define a new concept in the learning of Chinese language. Its specialty is in the ¡°study as you travel¡± concept: to integrate the learning of a language while traveling; to extend indoor classes outdoors and into the natural as well as socio-cultural and historical environments; to learn as you travel, to understand as you experience life, and to improve through new discoveries. Being steeped in China¡¯s natural environments, socio-cultures and folk customs, it is inevitable that students will experience true Chinese culture and have improvements in their communication skills.

2.        Culture summer camp is based on Chinese culture, local customs, folk culture, etc. to provide culture and language experience. There will be school, natural and historical sites tours, featuring Chinese food and cooking lessons, seminars with Chinese students, Chinese calligraphy and martial arts lessons, etc.

3.        Spring festival winter camp: The IES invites foreign university and high school students to learn about Chinese culture and experience the unique beauty of ¡°The home of snow¡± during our Chinese spring festival. Spring festival is the start of the Chinese lunar new year when families celebrate and pray for a happy and prosperous new year. It is the most traditional Chinese holiday and it represents a big part of Chinese culture. Students will celebrate the festival with Chinese families and enjoy the beautiful snow castle and winter sports.

V. Extra-curricular Activities of international Students

 

1. Sightseeing intra-Mudanjiang City: Cultural Square, Riverside Park, Beishan Park, Walking Street, Yuantongjiang Temple, Snow Castle of Mudanjiang, enjoying Chinese snacks, etc.

2. Suburban tour & sightseeing: The third ancient fortress, Mudanjiang National Forest Park, Pohai Leisure Folk Garden, Jingpo Lake, Yabuli Ski-field, Hengdao Hezi Tiger Park, Weihu Mountain TV & Film City. Visit Chinese rural areas, enjoy farmhouse dishes, etc.

3. Campus activities: social survey, Chinese recitation contest, table tennis contest, volleyball contest, Chinese calligraphy contest, Christmas, New Year party, etc.

4. The extra-curricular activities of short-term classes can be temporarily adjusted in accordance with the students¡¯ study time, interest and hobbies.

 

VI. about HSK

 

MNU HSK test center is authorized by Ministry of Education of China, which is the only one in Heilongjiang province besides Haerbin. It provides convenient service to international students in Heilongjiang province who would like to take the test. HSK test happens every 90 days in total of 8 times a year. Please register contact us to register 15 days before the test.

HSK is a standard international Chinese proficiency test authorized by Hanban (National Chinese Promotion Office). It mainly tests Chinese communication ability in living, study and work of those who take Chinese as a second language. It¡¯s the most authoritative official Chinese test to measure Chinese abilities of international students. HSK includes paper and oral tests, which are separated. Paper test includes HSK (level 1), HSK (level 2), HSK (level 3), HSK (level 4), HSK (level 5) and HSK (level 6); oral test includes HSK (beginner level), HSK (intermediate level) and HSK (advanced level). Oral test will be recorded
